Getting into a Routine

I haven't been to work in awhile, so today I asked Janny if she would stay with Nancy for part of the morning hours that Kelly was planning to be in the city (St. Louis) getting her engagement pictures taken with her fiance, Doug. I guess it was too hot and humid for the photographer, so Kelly and Doug returned home with no pictures taken. The hospice Aid came to help Nancy with hygiene issues such as a sponge bath and general cleaning up. Nancy said she felt better after that. Nancy was too tired to walk to the bathroom today for a more extensive bath, but the health care Aid said she would make sure Nancy got there on Wednesday.

Since I am also responsible for changing the IV solutions and I don't want to ask anyone else to also take on that responsibility, I had to be back home by 1:00pm (when the solution needed changing). As it was, I got back earlier, just because I want to be home with Nancy as much as possible. When I arrived, it was a pleasure to see that Rev. Pillman, our associate pastor at St. John UCC, was here visiting with Nancy. Nancy also had visits with Jerry Douseau (not sure of the spelling), a member of her book club and Donna Osiek before the hospice nurse came to change the dressing and put a new access needle into Nancy's port. Nancy seems to have a little more energy today. I hope she is able to maintain that energy for awhile. Right now, she is relaxing while watching Kelly's DVD of Grey's Anatomy (Season 2).

Nan & Al,

Thank you for keeping us all well informed. We are pleased to hear how well you seem to be coping. It was such a pleasure to spend time with you in early May. From here and now all we can do is wish you well and send our love. Take care.

It was lovely to see you both tonight. I'm glad to see you smile some Mom, especially when the puppy got quite playful and snipped at Kelly's backside! Hope you enjoyed your visitors and Grey's Anatomy.
Henry sends his love.
I love you both,
*Amy*

Thank you for allowing us to share in this journey with you through your blog. I am a co-worker of Amy's and wanted you to know that so many of us here at Children's Hospital are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. All my best to you.

Hi there! This is Amanda, Amy's college roommate! Thank you for creating this blog so we can all be a part of your daily life! I really get a kick out of hearing about your dog! Dogs are always good for senseless humor! :)

I hope your days are bringing you with many popsickles and visits from friends and family! You should try the red, white, and blue popsickles-3 flavors in one! :)

I always enjoyed living with Amy in college. She was a great friend and more importantly a great person. You have been great parents and raised some wonderful kids! I will never forget my time living with Amy and all of the great things that I learned from her!

Thanks again for keeping us informed and God bless you both!

Love,
Amanda Cornett

Oh man, the last poster mentioned my favorite popsicles from youth...the bomb/rocket pops. Mmmmmmmm...maybe Nancy would like some rocket pops? :)

I hope that both of you are able to enjoy the beautiful weather today, even if to just appreciate that it's not 100% humidity and 95 degrees here today.

Smiles to you all...every time I think of the Stephenson family, I smile, so I hope that we all occasionally make you smile, too!

love,
Jennie and Scott

Hello Everyone,
I am so glad that Amy sent this link along to me. My family has been praying for Nancy a long time and this will give us more direct focus on what to pray for. I've had too many brushes with cancer in my life to let it just go without prayer. My step-father recently battled stage 4 lymphoma and he awoke each day claiming that he was "blessed and highly favored" by God for being allowed one more day. One thing that has helped me through is the story in Daniel of the 3 Hebrew Children that were in the fiery furnace and how when people looked in on them, they saw another person walking with them. God walks with us through all of this, holding out hands, even when the situation looks dire. Please keep us informed and we'll continue to lift your family to God.
With Love,
Samantha Dietz
PS...I sang at Amy's wedding and was a roommate, in case the name didn't ring a bell. :)

Dear Nancy and Alan,

Lori passed along this blog to me and I am so glad to be able to write you a note. She showed me through a lot of the facebook pictures of Amy's wedding. The girls are so beautiful and they look so much like you and each other. I know you are so proud of all of your children - they are a beautiful testament to the wonderful parenting they have had from you and Alan. You are very blessed in that regard. And very blessed to have Alan as well. I know he takes very good care of you. It looks like you have very good company with your new puppy, Cricket (saw that picture as well). Please know that I am keeping you lifted up in prayer.
Love to you both.

Nancy and Alan: aka (mom and dad S.)
This is Holly, Amy's suitemate and roommate during college. I am so glad that Amy told me about this blog. I have often thought of you all since seeing you at Amy and Henry's wedding. There are a few things I will never forget about that day. Specifically, seeing mom Nancy's beautiful smile and hearing her neverending words of encouragment. Nancy, you are a blessing and inspiration to all those around you with your strength and positivity. I loved the chats we had in the suite and in the cottage. Amy always talked about you and I always felt like you were a second mom because of that. Your children adore you. I completely admire you for your courage and faith during these past few years. I am glad that you are able to be at home with your family and the puppy! If I were with you right now, I would give you the biggest hug ever and then sing you a song! I am praying for you and the whole family. God Bless You Momma Nancy1

Love in Christ,
Holly (Fritchie) Dahn

Hello Nancy and Alan,

I just heard about Kelly and Doug's planned commitment ceremony---what a wonderful idea!!

We want to congratulate them on their engagement!! Both such super nice kids. You've done such a terrific job raising such good kids. I KNOW you are proud...in fact, that is probably the thing that most stood out about you guys when we first met you through guard..that you were super committed, super supportive and super proud parents. Your kids are so lucky to have you both. I've always thought all your family 'doings' sounded so fun...especially the apple one!

Anyway, it sounds like a great day is in store...enjoy it and your family ---will Cricket be the commitment ring bearer? :~)

Love and prayers, Ellen and Wayne (and Kristen, too)

PS the wedding is just about a week away and I haven't QUITE lost my mind yet...but on some days, it's questionable. :~)

I continue to think of you every day, Nancy. What you're going thru sucks...it's as simple as that! I am so glad you had the good sense, way back when, to marry such a thoughtful, smart and strong man to be at your side throughout this ordeal I only wish I could do something to lighten your load...if there is anything at all, please just say the word.
